St. Mary's Catholic High School is proudly presenting its interpretation of "Footloose," starting with tonight's opening performance.
The show -- a musical version of the popular 1984 Kevin Bacon movie -- runs to Nov. 28th for its 7:30 p.m. performances and concludes on Nov. 29 with a 2 p.m. matinee.
"We've been working really hard, staying after school, setting up, practising, taking everything down, and then doing it all over again" Kayla Loura said.
Since June, when tryouts first began, the production crew has been working nonstop. Since returning in September and approaching the November performances, the work for these young volunteers has only increased.
"We're still rehearsing (and) putting on the final touches. Now that we're in November, the play is coming fast." Loura said
"We're all really excited, but at the same time, we all have butterflies" Loura Nobody can really tell you what to expect, you just have to come find out yourself."
The musician version of "Footloose" had its Broadway debut in late 1998 and, with a 709-performance run, was considered an entertaining success. The play, which focuses on the efforts of a transplanted dance-loving city kid to change the repressive attitudes of his new small-town home, was nominated for several Tony awards.
The play was later revived as a London production at the famed Novello Theatre and has enjoyed several national tours in both the U.S. and Britain.
The tickets, which are available now, are only $12.00 each and can be obtained by calling the box office at 519-675-4435.
With the bar set high from pervious performances, St. Mary's can promise another outstanding production this year.
