OPP warn about donation scam

INGERSOLL – The Oxford OPP are investigating a complaints of people collecting money on behalf of the Salvation Army.
Twice this past week the OPP were alerted to people collecting money on streets in the town.
The first incident took place Tuesday on Thames Street. Two people – a male and a female – were asking people for donations.
Police said the people were wearing white winter coats but had no identification.
They did provide victims with a fraudulent letter indicating they were authorized to collect for the Salvation Army.
On Thursday, two males were canvassing for donations on Melissa Street. Again, they had no identification but did have a hand written pledge sheet that "did not have a professional appearance to it."
Police said the Salvation Army indicated it had no one out collecting donations in this fashion.
The organization advised they receive their donations either at their store on Thames Street South or at their Christmas Kettles.
